IJOPCD is a full gold open access (OA) publication and as such all of its published research is fully accessible to the research community without any paywalls, barriers, or restrictions of any kind. This creates tremendous opportunities for authors to benefit from increased visibility and citation impact for their work as OA papers are 2-3 times more likely to be read than non-OA papers, and download rates are generally 89% higher, significantly increasing citations and indexing potential. Additionally, the copyright of the published work is retained by the article authors so they are able to reprint, reuse, etc. the work however they like. Also, articles are published rapidly, in some cases moving from submission to publication in as little as 30-60 days, while benefiting from a robust review process.

In order to offset the costs of all of the activities associated with the OA publication of article manuscripts, including the digital tools used to support the management and review process, the typesetting, formatting and layout, online hosting, the submission of the journal’s content to numerous abstracts, directories, and indexes, third-party software, editorial support which includes communications and submission guideline checks, all promotional support and activities, and the fact that all published articles will be freely accessible and able to be posted and disseminated widely by the authors, there is an article processing charge (APC) requested to be paid by the authors only if their work is accepted following the completion of the double-blind peer review process.

In an effort to ensure that OA publication is affordable to all of our authors, IGI Global provides OA resources:

o    Open Access Directory

o    Sherpa Juliet

IGI Global publishes nearly 200 fully OA journals. Should your current research endeavors not align with this journal, certainly there are others that might be more suitable. Please view all IGI Global calls for papers here.

Additionally, IJOPCD is seeking prestigious scholars to serve on the review board. Individuals appointed to the review board of the journal are performing an important and valuable job, assuring that the journal is being published with integrity and accuracy. Serving on a review board for a scholarly journal is a key step and significant contributing factor in your academic career progression.  This responsibility increases visibility, as well as your knowledge of current and novel research in the field. Interested individuals can apply to be a reviewer for the journal here.

Thank you very much for your consideration of this invitation. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at smiduri@igi-global.com.

TechTrends Special Issue, Call for Proposals: Blended & Distance Learning for P-12 Contexts

Passing this call for papers along for a colleague.

TechTrends Special Issue, Call for Proposals:

Blended & Distance Learning for P-12 Contexts

Special Issue Co-Editors

Kalianne L. Neumann, Oklahoma State University, kalianne.neumann@okstate.edu

Cecil R. Short, Brigham Young University, cecil.r.short@gmail.com

Frances Alvarado-Albertorio, Oklahoma State University, falvara@okstate.edu

Jacob A. Hall, SUNY Cortland, jacob.hall@cortland.edu

Description of Call

As a result of increased access to technology and technological innovations designed to support teaching and learning, P-12 contexts have changed dramatically over the last decade. Scholars prognosticated technology would transform learning in the 1990s; however, it wasn’t until the mid-2010s when more ubiquitous technology access resulted in a dramatic transformation of the P-12 educational landscape, quickly surpassing what scholars and early innovators envisioned. At the same time, P-12 online schools began growing in popularity and reach, with an increasing number of online schools operated by nonprofit corporations, public or private charter schools, states, and school districts – making online teaching and learning more accessible to those interested in alternative options. In addition to this rise in P-12 online schools, many traditional in-person schools also began to embrace online learning through the implementation of blended learning pedagogies.

However, more access to devices, educational technologies, and online schooling options does not automatically result in effective implementation and improved learning outcomes. Scholars, teacher educators, and teachers have responded to the dramatic changes by designing courses, professional development, and other initiatives to prepare P-12 teachers and students for blended and distance learning. Despite these efforts, many P-12 teachers, students, and families were unprepared to use blended and distance learning strategies during the abrupt transition to distance education in Spring 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an effort to share what is possible when it comes to preparing preservice and inservice teachers for blended and online teaching and learning contexts, the Teacher Education Division calls on authors to submit empirical, conceptual, and/or theoretical articles about blended and/or distance learning for P-12 contexts. Possible topics include but are not limited to:

  • Preservice teacher preparation for P-12 blended and/or distance learning
  • Professional development for inservice P-12 teachers about blended and/or distance learning
  • Digital equity and disparity in P-12 blended and/or distance learning
  • International issues/approaches regarding blended and/or distance learning among P-12 equivalent learners
  • Instructional and assessment strategies that support P-12 students’ learning in blended and/or distance learning contexts
  • ADA compliance and/or Universal Design in blended and/or distance P-12 learning
  • Technological tools and applications that support P-12 teaching and learning in blended and/or distance contexts
