May Highlights

We don’t know about you, but we’re getting excited that summer is almost here! We are so incredibly happy that you’ve been a part of the FLVS family—it’s been an awesome year and there’s been much to celebrate.
The FLVS Board of Trustees is happy to announce the appointment of Dr. Jodi Marshall, Executive Vice President, Business and School Solutions, as the new President and CEO of FLVS effective July 1, 2017. Dr. Marshall, a visionary leader and innovator who embodies the values of FLVS, will work together with Ronald Blocker to ensure a smooth transition upon his departure June 30.
Dr. Marshall has held many positions leading up to her current role over Business and School Solutions including English instructor, Principal, and Vice President of Instruction, since she joined the FLVS family in 2002.  Her experience and her dedication to our students, parents, schools, and districts will allow her to continue to drive FLVS forward.

FLVS held its annual Club Awards Day on May 4 in Orlando, Florida. Under the direction of Mae Martin, Clubs & Activities Coordinator, FLVS Flex and FLVS Full Time students were recognized and celebrated for their dedication and accomplishments, not only in their courses, but in extracurricular activities. The awards recognized students who embodied the spirit of traditional students, while fully embracing FLVS core values, and achieving excellence and innovation in our clubs.

In addition to these awards, FLVS recognized five students for their exemplary academic efforts, community service, citizenship, volunteer service, and leadership. The following students received the FLVS Student of the Year Award because they consistently exhibited these qualities and exceeded the expectations of their sponsors and teachers. Congratulations to these students:

  • Matthew Kousiry – Student Television Network; Club Sponsor: Beth Kennedy
  • Grace Robbins – Latin Club; Sponsors: Dara Taylor & Dr. Craig Bebergal
  • Tia Ritter – Peer Tutor Full Time; Sponsor: Jennifer Garry
  • Jonathan McKinley – Tech Club; Sponsors: Charlyn Walker & Lisa Rodriguez
  • Rosalind Rohrbaugh – Creative Writing Club; Sponsor: Katie Emery

As a reminder, Monday, May 29 is Memorial Day and a holiday for all Florida Virtual School teachers and staff. The FLVS Customer Care Center will also be closed on this day.

Although teachers will not be available, you are welcome to continue regular progress in your course(s).
