Journal of Online Learning Research Promising Scholar Award 2024

With the annual Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education conference coming up next month, I wanted to remind readers about this award that has been given out annually at the conference.

What is the JOLR Promising Scholar Award?

The purpose of the Promising Scholar Award program is to recognize emerging excellence in K 12 online, blended/hybrid, and distance education. Applicants should submit (one) unpublished manuscript for consideration. 

How is the winner recognized?

The award recipient will be recognized at the K-12 Online Learning SIG meeting during the SITE Interactive Conference in the Fall. The manuscript will be published in the Journal of Online Learning Research (JOLR) pending review and appropriate revisions. 

Am I Eligible?

The primary author of the unpublished research manuscript must be a doctoral candidate or an individual who has earned a doctorate within the last five years of the nomination deadline. 

What should the manuscripts be about?

All submitted manuscripts for the award should focus on K-12 online, hybrid/blended, remote, or distance research that employs internet technologies. Manuscripts should be empirical or theoretical work about the practice, design, administration, and/or evaluation of these types of learning in a primary or secondary setting. 

How Should I Format My Submission? 

Submissions should adhere to JOLR’s formatting guidelines. 

  • File format–.doc or .docx (Microsoft Word) 
  • Length–8000 words + references is the maximum length
  • Font–please use Times New Roman, 12 pt font
  • Title sheet – Please include a title page with author information, but otherwise blind the manuscript
  • Abstract – An informative, comprehensive abstract of 75 to 200 words must accompany the manuscript. Abstracts succinctly summarize the major points of the paper
  • Style – Manuscripts should follow APA 7th ed. style guidelines 

Who Will Choose the Winner?

Members of the award committee include the JOLR editors and members of the review board. Only a manuscript that is considered excellent will receive the award. If there are no qualified submissions, the award will not be given.
