PRT Professional Development Series Continues

November is a busy month for PD. These presentations were prepared to assist the CLC Community Development Agents in various aspects of their profession, but school administrators and staff are also welcome to enhance their own skills or to better understand the CDA’s role. Here’s a preview of upcoming virtual events:

Wednesday, Nov. 8, 9:00am – 11:00am  CLC Reporting Essentials Part 1 is a step-by-step guide of what goes into the Community Development Agent’s Online Journal as it relates to your Action Plan, why reporting is so important, and how it allows you to quantify and qualify your CLC’s outcomes.

Thursday, Nov. 9, 9:00am – 11:00am  CLC Reporting Essentials Part 2 is an opportunity to ask specific questions and get personalized feedback on how to highlight your partnerships and project impacts.

Wednesday, Nov. 15, 9:00am – 10:15am  Grants Part 1 will help you find the grants your school needs, then analyze and organize the materials and partners needed to write the best application possible.

Tuesday, Nov. 21, 9:00am – 10:15am  Grants Part 2 will help get your grant to the finish line. We’ll share writing tips to best describe your project and present requested info, and show data collection samples that enhance it.

LEARN TUTORING

We’re Back to Support Families Again this Fall

Evening online tutoring, at no cost to students, resumed on October 16 for our fall session. LEARN tutors are qualified and experienced Quebec teachers who enjoy supporting students with their learning. Feedback is sent every Friday to keep schools and families in the loop.

New this year! In order to prioritize service to students most in need of support in specific subjects, and according to our mandate for this project from the Ministère de l’Éducation, we are asking parents to identify student needs by completing a short checklist at registration.

In Conversation With Scott DeJong: Gamifying Education

Scott DeJong is a PhD student in Communication studies at Concordia University examining serious play, web literacy and digital cultures. I recently caught up with Scott to discuss the difference between gamification and game-based learning, the power of gaming in education, social justice games and how to get started with making classrooms more engaging through playing games. Not only does Scott make awesome games for students, but his games help expose online disinformation and social justice issues, a highly relevant topic for todays’ student population.

In Conversation With Ron Canuel

Educational strategist Ron Canuel joined ShiftED podcasts for an intriguing conversation on technology integration into school systems. Ron’s 44 year perspective is rich in experiences, practices and strategies to better engage students throughout their learning journey. With insight into many edtech initiatives, Ron’s words ring true today as much as they did 40 years ago; technology as a tool for learning is imperative for all.

LEARN, ELAN ArtEd & I Belong: Connecting Teachers, Teaching Artists & Students Through Art Education

Sometimes feedback comes in that exemplifies ArtistsInspire’s goals of connecting teachers, artists and students through Art Education, learning more about themselves and others through art. Butler Elementary School participated in two iterations of ‘I Belong’, LEARN’s project that invites teachers and students to explore their identity and sense of belonging to Quebec society through the arts. ‘I Belong!’ is funded by the Secrétariat aux relations avec les Québécois d’expression anglaise and is additionally supported by ELAN’s ArtEd team, who works with LEARN to identify featured artists and expand participation through the use of its Artists Inspire grants.
