Fall 2017 Forums across USA Council on Educational Standards & Accountability (CESA) Annual Symposium CESA brings school leaders together for the purpose of strengthening the Christian school community through professional development, collegiality, and catalyzing discussions pertaining to important ideas and themes in the Christian and independent school world. The keynote speakers this year include John Couch, Apple’s VP of Education, Andy Crouch, Author of the Tech-Wise Family, and Jim Denison, Ph.D., a speaker and writer on cultural and contemporary issues. Bad News, Good News The world is going through some challenging times. Turn on the news and you will hear about everything from a heated political climate, to flooded cities, struggles with racism, battles with drugs, immigration challenges, and wars. While there is good news, it is not always front and center. At times like these, it is helpful to remember that we are living in the middle of the story, not the end. And because we know the ultimate Good News, we can take comfort in knowing that there is a happy ending—God will wipe away every tear and create a new heaven and a new Earth where we will reign with him for eternity. In the end, God wins and makes everything right. And because he wins, we do too. In the meantime, we can join with God in his redemptive work of reaching out to those in need. There is much to do. Opportunities abound. We can resist the extremes of giving up on the world or becoming captive to it. We can be a counterculture for the common good. After all, we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We are Christ’s ambassadors. And we know how the story ends. What opportunities is God giving you to be his hands and feet? Where can you spread his love and truth?
