Parent Orientations

Please forward these details to your NCVPS parents. We have two orientations scheduled for them. Parents will learn how they can help their students make the most of the NCVPS experience. They will learn how to use the Canvas Parent App, Observer Access, Peer Tutoring Center, and many other student supports!

We have scheduled two parent orientations: Tuesday, August 29, 6 PM – 7 PM or Thursday, August 31, 11 AM – 12 PM.

Parents can register for the orientations here.

Co-Teaching/Blended Course for Our Classroom Teachers

We have a new course for our classroom co-teachers: NCVPS Co-Teaching/Blended Program: Classroom Partner Teacher Resources.

If you are registering students for our co-taught courses (OCS/Blended and Intervention), please have your classroom teachers take our new course in preparation for co-teaching. It’s short and self-paced. Classroom teachers will equip themselves with resources for success in the upcoming school year. Master the basics, day-to-day processes, and meet NCDPI expectations. Let’s maximize personal learning and empower our students! Classroom co-teachers have 24/7 access here.

Course Capacity List

See our Course Capacity List for the list of courses that are approaching capacity and a few that are at capacity.

Courses that are “At Capacity” will not have any new sections opened. The only way that students will move off the waitlist is if a student who is already enrolled in the course drops. We will continue to enroll students in courses that are “AT CAPACITY” through Day 10 of the course as other students drop. Courses that are identified as “Near Capacity” are still open for regular enrollment, but there are only a few teachers in reserve for new sections. If a course is not on this course capacity list, then it has no capacity issues, and any students on the waitlist will soon be enrolled in the course.

Sharing IEP Accommodations with NCVPS Teachers

We have a new process for sharing IEP accommodations with your NCVPS teachers, and we have an action step that requires your attention. See our IEP Accommodations announcement.

Summer ESSER Funding

We have added your summer ESSER funds to your allotment projection. This was the best option for us in our registration system. That update is now complete.

Economics and Personal Finance for OCS Students

While we do not offer an EPF OCS course, we do have a solution for your OCS students. See our Economics and Personal Finance Course Offerings announcement.

Registration 2023-2024

Registration Tips

Registration for the 2023-2024 school year is open. Here are a few tips as you register:

  • Make sure you’re enrolling in the correct semester. We have summer, fall, spring, yearlong, early standard, and standard start options.
  • Use the search feature in our registration system to find the courses you are looking for. Similar to PowerSchool, Math is 1-4. World Languages and English are I-IV. Our OCS courses have “blended” in the course title, and our co-taught intervention courses have “co-teaching” in the course title.
  • Download an enrollment report when you’re done registering for the day. Check to see if they’re enrolled or waitlisted.
  • Understand our waitlist. Our instructional directors use the waitlist to determine if they need to open a new section of the course or increase the capacity of an already opened section.
  • We will likely have a few courses end up on our course capacity list. Popular demand and teacher limitations drive this list. Students waitlisted for those courses may have a difficult time getting a seat in the course.
  • Download an enrollment report each day that you register to keep up to date on enrollment status and to have students’ usernames and passwords ready.

IEP Modifications in our Registration System

We have a new and easy process for sharing IEP modifications. Be sure to watch our how-to video guide for this new process.

NCVPS in NCEdCloud

NCVPS is now in NCEdCloud for easy student access. See our announcement for full details.

Progress Reports

We post progress reports every two weeks during the fall and spring. What should you do with the report? We’re glad you asked! Here are some steps you can take with each report.

Supporting Students

Be sure students and parents have the following printable guides:

Parent Contact Information

NCVPS tasks its teachers to have regular communications with the parents or guardians of their students. However, our teachers often find the contact information in PowerSchool is not accurate. Please help our teachers find update-to-date parent contact information. Our teachers will be reaching out to you, as we rely on schools to provide that information. We are sure your school will need current parent contact information, too!

Connecting with Parents

As virtual learning has become a part of everyday learning for most families across North Carolina, many parents, guardians, and mentors continue to struggle with how to support their online learners in blended and online classes. To provide resources and strategies for how to support not only our NCVirtual students, but all online learners in North Carolina, NCVirtual has created two Supporting Online Students (SOS) video courses in Canvas. Both courses are free, open to the public, and do not require login credentials. Please share both links with your educational communities and parent networks.

The second course, Supporting Online Students – NCVirtual, is specific to NC Virtual and includes specific examples, demonstrations, and resources for NC Virtual parents, guardians, and mentors.

Get Our Apps!

NCVirtual has a mobile app, and Canvas has two mobile apps and a web portal. What does each one do? We’re glad you asked! Here you go:

NCVirtual App: Stay connected with what’s happening at NCVirtual. Think of these as “front office” notifications.

Canvas Apps and Web Portal: Connect with a student’s course, see grades, due dates, pacing guides, and message the teacher.

Check out the guide on our Mobile Apps page to see when and where it’s best to use each app or portal.
