In Memoriam

AERA members who have recently passed away
Glen Irving Earthman, 95, died on March 26. He was an associate professor emeritus in educational leadership at Virginia Tech. Read more
Carl Kaestle, 82, died January 5. Kaestle was an emeritus professor of education, history, and public policy emeritus at Brown University, and a former president of the National Academy of Education. He was an AERA Fellow, recipient of the AERA Review of Research Award, and served on the AERA Task Force on IES Reauthorization. Read more
Fred Newmann, 86, died February 10. He worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madision’s School of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction for three decades. Newmann received the AERA Palmer O. Johnson Award in 2003 and an AERA Presidential Citation in 2002. Read more
