Submit Proposal
ICYMI…registration is now open for Quality in Action — the one-day, online conference designed for higher ed practitioners. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain the practical knowledge you need to design and teach learner-centric courses that support student success at every level. As 2021 attendee Kathy Kysar from the University of Alaska Fairbanks noted, “Every session was filled with real-world applications.” So get your notebooks ready and join your peers for Quality in Action — April 29 from 10:00 a.m. ET to 6:00 p.m. ET. Register before April 8 to save $25.00.

It’s also time to show the QM community how you are Expanding Possibilities at every level…from administration to frontline faculty. Submit a presentation proposal for QM Connect! Share how you are experimenting, breaking boundaries, looking beyond what you know, and trying new things — all in an effort to help your students succeed. Submit by April 1, 2022, to receive personalized feedback and have the opportunity to revise your proposal before the final review. Additionally, if your proposal is accepted, you’ll get a $50 discount on the conference registration fee.

With the certification of Auditoria de Calidad y Ambienta, Instituto Profesional IACC received its first QM Certification Mark, becoming the first institution in Chile to earn the distinction and only the fourth in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region. As QM’s International Representative to the LAC region Dr. Fernando Senior explains, the impact of having even a single course certified is greater than you think.

Publication News
finger haovering over a keyboard button that says publications
QM Director of Research and Innovation Dr. Bethany Simunich has been busy collaborating on several publications. Recent highlights include:

Quality in Online Programs
Bethany and her co-authors Amy Grincewicz and Cathy DuBois contributed a chapter — The Business of Online Quality — featuring a case study of a fully online MBA developed with quality assurance goals and embedded QA processes at its core. The development of the program is explored, including the collaborative nature of creating a quality online graduate degree program.

Learning: Design, Engagement and Definition
Bethany and Amy teamed up again, co-authoring a chapter on designing what have often been referred to as “master” courses, specifically ones that promote significant, engaged learning. The chapter explores how a collaboratively-designed “master” course can create opportunities for engaged learning experiences for both the learner and the instructor. It also addresses faculty objections and concerns regarding the impact of these courses on teaching and faculty autonomy.

American Journal of Distance Education
Bethany, members of the QM research team, and several QM Research Colleagues took an in-depth look at the people, policies and processes that drive QM implementation in a mixed-methods research project. This exploratory study is currently available online and will be published in an upcoming special edition of the “American Journal of Distance Education.”

Measurable Learning Objectives
quick tip
Learning objectives drive your entire course. Because of the important role they play, it’s imperative that yours are measurable. The best way to do this is to use action verbs that can be assessed. Need help? Bloom’s Taxonomy is one resource but there are many others you can use.

To learn more about creating learning objectives for your course and modules, download the Bridge to Quality: A QM Online Course Design Guide. Then join your peers for next month’s public QM Live! sessions (see sidebar), including Measurable, Precise, Consistent & Clear Objectives. Each workshop is only $75.00 for members ($100 for nonmembers).
