iNACOL is pleased to announce that Rose Colby, Paul Leather and Yvonne Armenta will keynote the iNACOL Symposium on Wednesday, October 25.

In this TED-talk style keynote, two experts leading the transformation to competency education will provide deep insights from their journeys — recognizing the “long-game” needs for change for education systems over two decades — as well as a student perspective on how a student-centered, competency-based approach provided her with personalized pathways to grow, exhibit her student work based on mastery, and what it has meant for realizing success.

Rose Colby, a Competency-Based Learning and Assessment Specialist, will share her work across multiple states, districts and schools to explore the central design elements of competency education systems to meet the needs of all students.

As Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Education in New Hampshire, Paul Leather’s work has led the nation through a student-centered vision for systems to support local leaders in reimagining the future of education and understanding how New Hampshire is building capacity for professional educators to implement these transformations to personalized learning.

Yvonne Armenta, a former student of Metropolitan Arts & Technology High School, will share her student perspective on how performance assessments in personalized, competency-based systems led to deeper learning and preparedness for college, career and life.

Each will share their journey of school transformation efforts to personalized, breakthrough system models that advance success for all youth.

Caroline Hill, Chief of School Creation and Transformation for CityBridge Education, will share her experiences in advancing education innovations for equity and building capacity for designing personalized, breakthrough models.

As Superintendent and CEO in Surrey Schools (British Columbia), Jordan Tinney will speak on how he has approached leading change, building capacity, and developing a culture of learning through his “Learning by Design” framework.

Harvey Chism, Co-Founder and Executive Director of South Bronx Community Charter High School, will share his insights in advancing student-centered, competency-based education innovations.

iNACOL Symposium 2017 - Personalizing Learning: Equity, Access, Quality - October 23-25, 2017 Orlando, Florida

iNACOL is pleased to announce the lineup of Pre-Conference Workshops scheduled to kick off the iNACOL Symposium held in Orlando, Florida on October 23-25, 2017.

 

iNACOL offers Pre-Conference Workshops on Monday, October 23, 2017 to provide focused full- and half-day interactive opportunities for deeper learning and knowledge building in personalized, competency-based, blended and online learning. These workshops provide intensive professional development in small groups and require a separate registration from the Symposium.

 

Space is limited, so please register for the Pre-Conference Workshops as soon as possible.

Here are directions to register for Pre-Conference Workshops:

  • If you’ve already registered to attend the iNACOL Symposium, click here to add a Pre-Conference Workshop to your existing registration.
  1. Enter your email. Click ‘continue.’
  2. Enter your password and click ‘continue.’ From here, you can modify various aspects of your registration, including adding a pre-conference workshop.
  • If you’ve already registered to attend the iNACOL Symposium with a group, you will need to email your pre-conference workshop choice(s) to Gigi Andrew:gandrew@executivevents.com.
  • If you haven’t yet registered to attend the iNACOL Symposium, register here today and be sure to add a pre-conference workshop to your registration.

As the Co-Founder and CEO of Summit Public Schools, Diane Tavenner will reflect on her journey implementing a new, personalized breakthrough model to advance equity, access and quality.
