Given that the conference begins today, it appears that I only received four of these messages in total (and one of those vendors I had a prior relationship with).  Wondering how this appeared and how many of these their were for people actually attending.

See You At VSS 2011

And a third vendor (and the second one that I did not have an existing relationship with) message hits my inbox – and again, I haven’t even registered for the Virtual School Symposium this year.

Hope To See You At The iNACOL Virtual School Symposium

Last year you may recall that I posted every single vendor e-mail I received leading up to iNACOL‘s Virtual School Symposium (see Vendors, Corporations, The Virtual School Symposium And iNACOL for the summary of that little experiment – for the record there were 19 e-mails I received from vendors, compared with three e-mails from vendors from the 17 other conferences I attended that year combined).  The sheer amount of these e-mails, along with the nature of many of the sessions, has led me to call the event the Virtual School Symposium Trade Show.

Interestingly, while I am not attending the Virtual School Symposium this year (and as such, have not registered for the event), I have still appeared on at least mailing lists for a VSS vendor that I had no prior relationship with.  This message showed up in my inbox on Monday.

GoVenture Educational Games and Simulations

Greetings Michael Barbour,

We hope to see you at the iNACOL Virtual School Symposium this year.

At MediaSpark, we believe games, simulations, and social networks are revolutionizing education. Thousands of schools use our GoVenture products to teach business, financial literacy, health, math, and more. Leading companies hire us to develop their products.

We invite you to drop by our booth for free trials and other giveaways – or to just chat about the next big innovations in online education.

We look forward to seeing you soon! If you won’t be at the show, visit us at

The MediaSpark-GoVenture Team

I’m curious now to see how many more of these I will get in the next few days (or for those who have registered, how many you have received thus far).

The VSS conference provides professional development for K-12 online and blended learning for more than 2,000 K-12 administrators, policy leaders and practitioners; important networking opportunities; access to expertise and analysis, trends and research; and thought-provoking sessions for leaders looking to help shape the future of education.
