SOCIAL SCIENCES/UNIVERS SOCIAL

On n’est pas seul en univers social!
Big changes and even more resources on RÉCITUS and Cartograf

Le Récit univers social se dote d’un tout nouveau site web! After 11 years the familiar face of the RÉCIT en univers social changed this month. Not just a new look, but more possibilities, including online training for teachers and video capsules for history. A few sections were let go, but there were significant gains in the process, including the now-bilingual Cartograf mapping site available on LEARN.

SCHOOL-COMMUNITY HARVEST INSTITUTE

How Gardens Are Growing Across the Province

LEARN and McGill’s Harvest Institute was a great success. 30 teachers, environmental educators, researchers and Community Development Agents came together to talk about how their School-Community Garden grew this past season.

Highlights of the Institute included a poster session, seed exchange and planting garlic in McGill’s Faculty of Education garden. Participants worked together to share knowledge around curriculum connections, garden grants and building school and community engagement.

Assessing Assessment

NEXTschool participants often find themselves ‘assessing assessment’. Excited about the trans-disciplinary model of teaching and learning, the focus on enhancing student engagement and preparing students for the world ahead, they wonder:

  • How might we best assess student learning when individual subjects are regrouped into curricular clusters and students spend 20% of their time on community problem-solving initiatives?

PARTNERS MAKING AN IMPACT

VIRTUAL CAMPUS PRESENTATION PARTNERSHIP

What a Team!

On October 16, LEARN’s online math teacher, Peggy Drolet, partnered with a LEARN Tutor, Nancy Langlois, to deliver an amazing presentation at the FADIO Rencontre des Partenaires conference in Rivière-du-Loup. Their engaging and well-attended presentation “Comment optimiser l’engagement de ses élèves dans un cours à distance au secondaire?” revealed some of the techniques and tools used by these master teachers to communicate, collaborate, reflect, and learn together with their online students.
