VIRTUAL SUMMER SCHOOL

Summer School Online

With the year-end close in sight, LEARN is hard at work planning an Online Summer School option with Quebec’s English School Boards, that will provide an additional solution for students needing to improve their grades for the coming year. These courses will be offered in real-time, online, by qualified subject teachers. All students registered in an English School Board within the province may access this service.

Students will be able to register online at the LEARN website,
as of June 21st, 2019.

SOCIAL SCIENCES

History Resources for Review & Summer Learning

LEARN’s various Social Sciences sections provide teachers and students with many tools to help prepare for June and summer exams, as well as resources that support educators as they organize, design and plan for their year ahead. Secondary 3 and 4 teachers can now access a community of 2000 plus, where teachers and consultants are sharing useful documents, practice exams, and learning and evaluation strategies. Students can also browse our historical materials, and even view one of our How-tos, or two!

Addressing Authentic
Community Needs

LEARN works to support community vitality and student success across Quebec through the promotion of Community Service Learning (CSL). CSL is a pedagogical strategy that empowers students to learn, by working with their community to address authentic community needs.

To promote Community Service Learning, LEARN produced a short video highlighting three CSL projects that took place in Community Learning Centres (CLC) this past school year.  We would like to thank all the teachers, students and community partners from Ste Agathe Academy, Butler and Farnham Elementary and Chateauguay Valley Regional High School that participated.

We love how the importance of student voice, learning by doing and school-community partnerships shines through.

NEXTschool – is it a noun? A verb? A mindset? A movement?

This was the question being discussed at a recent meeting of the NEXTschoolfacilitators – the thoughtful and experienced ‘guides on the side’ who are supporting and cheerleading our NEXTschool cohorts as they explore systemic change and develop specific prototypes for their own NEXTschools. Meeting every 6-8 weeks throughout the year, the facilitators have co-designed the journey for each EXPLOREschool, responding to each school’s context, needs and objectives.

So… what is the verdict?
