VIRTUAL SUMMER SCHOOL

Engaging Students
into Summer School

To assist students who do not have access to summer school services at a school nearby, LEARN will be offering an online summer school option beginning in July 2019. These courses will be offered in real-time, online, by qualified subject teachers. All students registered in an English School Board within the province may access this service. These services are for students who have already completed a year of study in a course and who:

  • wish to improve their final results or,
  • did not receive a passing grade as a final result and wish to rewrite the final exam,
  • are approved by their School Board to take a summer course.

Students will be able to register online at the LEARN website,
as of June 21st, 2019.

Parent Engagement

Families play an important role in the education of children. Parents are their child’s first teachers and mentors. When children enter school, educators join the team to help further the academic, social and emotional education of students. Together, families and schools can create the best environments in which children can learn, grow and thrive as citizens. The Provincial Resource Team (PRT) offers support to CLC schools developing and implementing projects, programs, and activities that promote family engagement in all aspects of school life.

THEMATIC OCS DAY

Microcontrollers in the Classroom

Microcontrollers are programmable circuit boards that are ideal for hands-on learning. Control the physical world with sensors, turn on lights or play tunes, or sew a circuit with these versatile devices. We will tinker with Makey Makey, Micro:bits, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and a Hummingbird in this all-day hands-on workshop that is free of charge to all educators on Friday, May 31, 2019.

By Liz Falco

To make a thriving NEXTschool
Here is what you’ll need:
Some measuring cups, a mixing bowl
Many ingredients, indeed.

Begin by pouring in one litre
Of an open, flexible mindset;
Season with creativity,
Keeping the batter slightly wet.

Add five full heaping tablespoons
Of each subsystem, STARC,
Be sure to blend in smoothly,
Making the batter cool and dark…
