NEWS&NOTESThe purpose of each weekly issue is to provide information and to engage members in the diverse opportunities and activities of your association.

SEEKING MENTORS FOR AECT LEADERSHIP INTERNS. The Leadership Development Committee (LDC) is looking to create a Mentor pool for our emerging leaders identified through the AECT Leadership Internship Program. We invite you to apply to be a Mentor by filling out this short questionnaire. We anticipate being a mentor will take 1-3 hours per month.  The following resource will provide you with an introduction to what being a mentor for AECT is all about. AECT Intern Mentoring Guidelines. In addition, the LDC is sponsoring a workshop at the 2017 International Convention in Jacksonville titled Everything You Wanted to Know About the Mentoring Relationship* (*but were afraid to ask). This workshop is being offered on Tuesday, November 7 from 9am – 4pm. We suggest all those interested in being a mentor attend the workshop. Please send any questions about the mentoring program to the AECT Leadership Intern Coordinator Megan Murtaugh.

LEARNER ENGAGEMENT SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP. The SIG seeks to promote open, vibrant dialogue on the new implications technology has on learner engagement and innovative instructional strategies to increase learner engagement. The SIG encourages genuine, professional discussion among members of the group about all dimensions of learner engagement including learner-to-learner, learner-to-instructor, and learner-to-content interactions. To join the SIG, please visit our LinkedIn group and click the Ask to join button:

GREAT SUMMER FUN AHEAD! The AECT Foundation is once again holding the annual fundraising auction at the Summer Board and Leadership Meeting in Jacksonville, Florida on Monday evening, July 17.  Don’t forget to bring your items for sale plus your Christmas gift lists. Expect lots of fun, laughter, and great finds while supporting the Foundation’s continued efforts in awarding scholarships, internships, fellowships, and leadership-training programs for AECT. If you can’t make it to the event, your monetary gifts will be welcomed or we can have someone join in the bidding in your name. Contact Ana Donaldson if you would like to participate virtually or make a contribution.

RICHARD B. LEWIS MEMORIAL AWARD. Do you know a school or system, public or private, you’d like to recognize for outstanding technology integration and media utilization programs? We’re seeking nominations for the Richard B. Lewis Memorial Award for Outstanding School Media and Technology. Nominations are due August 15, 2017. 2017 EARLY CAREER SYMPOSIUM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS. AECT’s Research and Theory Division will be hosting the 2017 Early Career Symposium this year sponsored by AECT. The symposium will be held as a half day online conference October 28th and at the annual AECT International Convention onTuesday, November 7 (half day 1-6 PM starting with lunch) and Wednesday, November 8 (half day, 7:30AM – noon, ending with lunch together with the AECT Board), 2017, in Jacksonville, Florida. The symposium will thus engage participants in a day and a half of focused career mentoring and networking. Learn how to apply!
