NEWS&NOTESThe purpose of each weekly issue is to provide information and to engage members in the diverse opportunities and activities of your association.

RICHARD B. LEWIS MEMORIAL AWARD. Do you know a school or system, public or private, you’d like to recognize for outstanding technology integration and media utilization programs? We’re seeking nominations for the Richard B. Lewis Memorial Award for Outstanding School Media and Technology. Nominations are due August 15, 2017. For more information, please visit AECT’s website or contact Leslie Blatt.  And you can follow SMT on Facebook.

PROPOSED PRIVACY POSITION STATEMENT. Every day, we install apps, click on our news services, and make online purchases. How often do we stop and think about what happens to all the information that we freely – and often unwittingly – share in these online activities? Do we know how our information will be used? Do we trust those with whom we share it? Even if your answer to these questions is yes, how are the sorting and sifting of our digital lives affecting our interactions with our fellow citizens? Can we have those “national conversations” on difficult topics if we never really “talk” to one another? What impact might that be having on our democracy? Are we voluntarily hacking ourselves in more effective ways than the Russians ever could? Click here to read and enter your response about this document.
