MindShare Learning Report – April Top 10 News Stories – Global Learning Edition

A newsletter from Friday’s inbox.

Dear Thought Leader,

I’m pleased to share our Top 10 news stories from our April Global Learning Edition. Having recently returned from theCoSN17 Conference in Chicago, I was intrigued by the many conversations I had with colleagues from around the globe with respect to learning, innovation and global competencies. Canada proudly is looked upon as a global leader in these areas in the K12 space.

One of the nagging questions that emerged from the CoSN17 conference for me—What are faculties of education across Canada doing to transform, innovate and prepare our future teachers for classrooms of today and tomorrow? We’ll be exploring this topic in our May Professional Learning edition. Watch for it!

Until next time, keep the digital learning curve steep!

P.S. MindShare Learning is once again a proud media partner of ISTE 2017, June 25-28 , San Antonio Texas. Watch for details of our CanAm Celebration of Excellence Partnering Reception!

We have the technology, the infrastructure, and I think in many cases, the resolve to connect our classrooms and schools with different learning experiences across the globe. In fact, I would argue that every classroom and school should begin to create – if you haven’t already! – a mindset where each teacher and student thinks about the global community and the amazing collaborative experiences that are only a digital connection away!

So how do you create and sustain a Global Classroom and School? The list below is certainly not definitive, but it’s certainly a great place to start! Read through it and start to think about ways in which you might involve your classroom or school in a global adventure!

Building Leader and Educator Capacity for Transformation

What makes a great teacher great? They are continually innovating and assessing how their work can further improve student success and outcomes. This leads policy makers to ponder – how do we build the capacity of educators and leaders to continuously learn, innovate, and improve on what they do?

Building up your teachers is so important – and there are so many ways to do so! Teachers require practical experience and an ability to innovate a range of techniques to meet the needs of every student presented before them. Many teachers receive little preparation for the practical realities of classroom management. That’s why it is critical for systems to invest in initial teacher education, just as the top performing education systems do.
