The conference is hosted by the Jönköping University in co-operation with Destination Jönköpingand SADE, the Swedish Association for Open and Distance Learning.

Registration is open

The EDEN Secretariat is taking care of the registration for the Annual Conference. The registration fee includes access to all conference facilities, the electronic Conference Proceedings, the Welcome Cocktail, lunches and refreshments during the conference days. The fee does not include accommodation and the conference dinner (optional, indicative price 80 EUR).

registerAuthors of contributions accepted for presentation can benefit from a reduced fee. For each paper, only one reduced author’s fee will be offered. For more information on fees and discounts, visit the Conference Registrationpage.

Preliminary conference structure

The Conference programme includes plenaries, parallel sessions with paper presentations, workshops, trainings, moderated poster and demo sessions and the synergy strand. The event starts on Tuesdayafternoon on 13 June, with registration, followed by the Welcome Reception and ends with a Farewell Coffee on 16 June.

Get to know some of our keynotes

Frans Mäyrä

mayraFrans Mäyra is a professor of Interactive Media, Digital Culture and Game Studies and Vice Dean at the Faculty of Communication Sciences at University of Tampere. He is a “techno-humanist researcher with an avid interest in digital culture in its many forms, currently heading a games research group in the new media department of a major university, aiming to change the world to better by making us better aware of our multidimensional, immaterial as well as material existence.”

Manjula Srinivassrinivas

Manjula Srinivas is a Professor and Head of the Department of Mass Media at the Kishinchand Chelaram College, better known as K. C. College, in Mumbai, India. She is a self-starter with over 15 years of teaching experience across varied colleges and roles, including, teaching, administration, content & syllabi development.

Hanqin Qiu

qiuHanqin Qiu is a professor international tourism at the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She received her BA from Nankai University in Mainland China, her MA from University of Waterloo in Canada, and her PhD from University of Strathclyde in UK. Her research interests are tourism studies, consumer behaviour, and China hotel and tourism development and policy issues. She has been the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Quality Assurance in Hospitality & Tourism since 2016.

Pre-conference workshops

Digital Transformation And Diversity In A Swedish Context

This pre-conference workshop will be on 13 June, at 12:00-16:00 CET, hosted by SADE, the Swedish Association for Open and Distance Learning, and will be free of charge.

EDEN SIG on TEL and quality enhancement

This pre-conference workshop will also be launched on 13 June, at 16:30-17:00 CET. It will introduce and present EDEN’s SIG on TEL and Quality Enhancement: state of the art in research and practices, current challenges and challenges ahead. The SIG will present the aims of the group and will invite EDEN NAP members to join the group through discussions in NAP area and other EDEN channels.

It will be followed by a series of EDEN SIG on TEL and quality enhancement wokshops/learning cafes, which will take place during the EDEN 2017 Annual Conference.

Young Scholars’ Support

We are pleased to announce that EDEN’s support scheme to young scholars will be offered again at the 2017 Annual Conference, with the sponsorship of SADE, the Swedish Association for Distance Education. Two young researchers’ attendance at the Conference will be supported with €600 each.

There has been an impressive response to the Call, showing high level compliance with the theme and concept. The relevance and diversity of submissions is reassuring for a conference rich in content and in networking opportunities.

Due to numerous extension requests received, the online submission will remain open until further notice. Submissions that relate to the Conference Scope and one or more of the Conference Themesare still welcome in paper, poster, workshop, training, demonstration and synergy formats.

that your papers, posters and training submissions will not only be subjected to the conference evaluators’ thorough assessment, but could also win one of EDEN’s prestigious awards. We are keen to promote and inspire professionals by recognising excellence and will continue the tradition of distinguishing Best Papers and Best Practice Initiatives. The conference participants can also make their voices heard – they will be able to vote on their favourite posters on display – the poster earning the highest number of votes will receive the conference’s Poster Prize. Everybody who has an accepted submission for presentation will receive a Speaker badge and all conference participants will be awarded a Participant badge.

After the conference: DreamHack Summer 2017

DreamHack, the world’s largest LAN party and festival around computer gaming with scene performances and several types of competition (e-sport, cosplay and more) will be held at the exhibition center in Jönköping all weekend after the EDEN Annual Conference, starting on the Friday. Watch the introduction to the event on YouTube. This is an excellent opportunity for EDEN conference participants to make their stay in Jönköping not just professionally useful but also enjoyable.
