AGENCY NEWSWestEd Celebrating 50 Years
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 authorized federal funding for Regional Educational Laboratories (RELs). Among the 10 RELs established across the country a year later were FWL (Far West) and SWRL (Southwest), which merged three decades later to form WestEd.

The West Comprehensive Center works with state education leaders in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah to implement and sustain statewide initiatives designed to improve student outcomes. The Center’s activities include:
- Convening regional and state communities of practice
- Providing expertise, onsite consultation and guidance
- Providing current and emergent research, evidence-based practices and resources in eight priority areas
