ISTE 2016 Retrospective Part 1

image07MindShare Learning Proudly Partnered with ISTE16 as a Media Associate. Special Thanks to ISTE.

Noisy, messy, fun and collaborative are the words that come to mind in experiencing ISTE2016 in Denver. Quite a contrast to the learning environment I experienced as an aging baby boomer. With some 15,000 plus delegates (over 300 Canadians) on hand there was ample opportunity to connect with old and new friends. For a more in-depth Canadian educator perspective, check out Sandra Chow’s blog, Award winning TDSB educator and MindShare advisory board member.

MindShare Musings

I was inspired to see my former Mississauga Mayor, Hazel McCallionInstalled as Sheridan’s Inaugural Chancellor recently. She remains an inspiration to all of us. Kudos to Sheridan for having the courage to name McCallion to this high profile post.

Speaking of convocations, I was honoured to be the guest of Dean Ron Owston’s final convocation as he ended his term at the Faculty of Education at my alma mater, York University. Dr. Owston certainly left his mark with his inspired leadership and innovative spirit that permeated throughout the faculty and beyond.I truly enjoyed listening to theNPR TedTAlkRadio show for the first time recently on my way home from sailing. The theme Nudge really hit home. The following is a short summary and link that I encourage you to tune into as summer listening. I think I’m going to be a regular listener.

Speaking of Nudging… OECD Canadian Report Canada is adjusting to the end of the commodities boom, but new policies are needed to boost productivity and reduce financial stability risks.

My good friend and colleague Maxim Jean-Louis, CEO Contact North and his team continue to make bold strides in the online learning space–Contact North | Contact Nord Research Associate Dr. Tony Bates’ Textbook Now Available in French. With an English version numbering over 16,000 downloads, this ebook is no doubt a best seller and FREE!

I was honoured recently to be appointed to the ICTC_CTIC Task Force on Driving Change Education and Skills DigitalTalent2020. This is important work in dealing with the HUGE skills gap that is only going to get worse if we don’t address it in the short term! Stay tuned for more updates!

Until next time, keep the digital learning curve steep! R.M
