LEADERSHIP WEBINARResearch and Approaches to Expand the Definition of Student Success
Wednesday, July 13, 2016
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. ET (register)
On Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET, the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) is hosting a Leadership webinarto examine research and approaches embracing an expanded definition of student success.
A wide array of high-quality research shows that intrapersonal and interpersonal non-cognitive skills, such as self-control and social competence are well-established predictors of success in academics, career and well-being. Given the importance of these outcomes and the strength of the existing research, it is time for these competencies to be incorporated effectively into educational policy and practice. These non-cognitive skills complement existing academic and cognitive goals in order to ensure schooling works to help all students flourish.
Join this webinar to explore the importance of equipping students with the mindsets, essential skills, and habits (MESH) necessary to succeed. Learn practical steps for moving your school towards an expanded definition of student success and gain insights on approaches school systems can use to assess and develop students’ mindsets and skills at scale, with examples from Summit Public Schools.
Bruce Friend, COO of iNACOL said, “While student success has traditionally measured only academic outcomes, new research indicates that non-cognitive skills are strong predictors of student success later in life. By incorporating non-cognitive skills into education policy and practice, schools can focus on teaching the whole child and developing important skills for college and career preparedness.”
This webinar is free to attend-participants are invited to register here for final details and login information.
