Kia ora and welcome to the June newsletter for NZC online.
This month we further unpack our new section Curriculum and the community.
Following on from the collaboration with #edchatNZ exploring community engagement and curriculum design we have now built six packages to support you and have one more to go.

National events and community engagement
Three upcoming national events will give you further opportunities to connect with your community.

Te Wiki o te reo Māori, from 4 July
Our resource page offers ideas, links, and stories to help schools engage with their parents, families, and whānau to support the learning of te reo Māori in both the school and home environment.

Cook Islands Māori Language Week, from 31 July
Cook Islands Language Week Hibiscus flower.celebrates the identity, languages, and culture of students from the Cook Islands and students whose families are from the Cook Islands; supporting this group of learners to engage and achieve success.

Rio 2016 Olympic Games, from 5 August
The Rio 2016 Olympics provide a useful context Olympic rings.for students to consider the NZC values of excellence, diversity, integrity, community, and participation and meet learning outcomes in a range of learning areas, especially social science and health.

New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) achievement standards and assessment resources
New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) achievement standards for level 6 and level 7 have been developed for use from 2016. Context elaborations are available in the Senior Secondary Learning Languages guide. Level 8 achievement standards and context elaborations will be ready for use from 2017.
