The conference programme is set up from over 160 accepted contributions, including research paper sessions, demonstration and poster sessions, workshops, training courses and lively Synergy sessions for new project ideas and in-progress initiatives. See the detailed conference programmehere.

European policy and practice in Digital Skills and Competences – a hands-on workshop with representatives of the ET2020 Working Group

This workshop at the EDEN 2016 Annual Conference in Budapest will provide participants with insights into EU policy relating to digital skills and competences. It will also enable participants to share their own experience and knowledge and to identify priorities for future work in the field.

Research on Opening up Education through the use of Digital Technologies: Development of a support framework for Higher Education Institutions

The workshop will present research done by the Joint Research Centre – Institute for Prospective Technological Studies, on behalf of DG EAC, on the development of a support framework for HEIs to take strategic decisions and concrete initiatives on opening up education.

“We should focus in the short term more on MOOCs than on OER.”

A special Oxford-Style Debate session will be held about the above statement of the standing of MOOCs and business models of openness. Debaters will be Professor Paul Bacsich (SeroHE) and Stavros Panagiotis Xanthopoylos (Open Education Consortium) on Thursday, 16 June, after lunch.

Pre-conference workshops

Our free pre-conference workshops will be held on 14 June, in the afternoon:

  • “The mobility guide on-line” – OpenPROF project workshop 12:00-15:00
  • “Inspire! – An Unconventional Forum with EDEN Young Scholars” – Young Scholars’ Workshop
    Including: How can young scholars write better quality journal articles? With Editors of online academic Open and Distance Learning Journals. 15:00-18:00

Book and Wine event

EDEN continues the tradition of the Book and Wine event: at the end of the first day (15 June) the lovers of literature and good wines share their latest interesting reading experience through short presentations. Nice red wine served for free!

We are delighted to announce that EDEN Founder Sir John Daniel, former Vice-Chancellor of the Open University UK, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education and President of the Commonwealth of Learning accepted the invitation to be the Dinner Speaker at the Conference Dinner on 16 June when we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of EDEN.

Welcome Reception – featuring the University Chorus

The Welcome Reception will take place in the assembly hall of the central building at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The University Chorus will be performing for our guests.
