Our goal is to:
Connect Schools for Enhanced Learning Outcomes
In this newsletter we celebrate the success of the Rural & Remote Schools project being recognised with a Merit in the national DEANZ award; and we update you on our Air NZ Airpoint progress and ask you to keep sharing and supporting this for our students. There is an offer to all our VLN Primary schools from the Pye Foundation to join up for a pilot project that offers access to Sunshine Classics online. Barrie Matthews from LEARNZ invites students and teachers to become Nature Watchers with the iNaturalist app and to join our newest WeLearn group to share their findings. Ginette writes about her big day out at Wairakei Primary School and we discuss the Arts Online curriculum with Education HQ.
It is as usual another busy month in the VLN Primary school. We are very excited to announce that Ginette our National Co-ordinator / eLearning Support, has now been employed full time for the remainder of the year. This will make a huge difference to the level of support for our eteachers and students and provide us with the capacity to work with new schools as they join us throughout the year. It will also free Rachel up to focus on developing sustainability for the VLN Primary School within the changing NZ education landscape. This involves a lot of advocacy, networking, proposal and fund writing applications. We are cautiously optimistic that we are starting to gain some movement in this area and will soon be able to focus on the business of teaching and learning online and not just surviving each year intact. We are trialling a new webconferencing tool Zoom and early indications show this is going to make a huge difference in providing quality, reliable connections between our schools. We will report further in our next newsletter. This week Rachel is at conference with the Sole Charge & Teaching Principals and presenting ‘Tips and Tools for Online Collaboration.’ This conference is always a highlight on our calendar and results in stronger networks and new ideas for schools collaborations.

Rachel talks to Education HQ about how the Arts Curriculum is catered for in the VLN Primary. We have supported a few great projects, but there is scope to do so much more with the support of keen contributors and more funding. Get in touch if you would like to drive this in our learning community. Read more
