Welcome to Jeffrey A. Elliot – The New CEO of The VHS Collaborative
Jeffrey Joins The VHS Collaborative as It Enters It’s 15th Year

VHS is pleased to welcome Jeff Elliott as our new President and CEO. Jeff was selected as CEO after a nationwide search to replace retiring CEO Liz Pape, who will continue to support VHS as a member of the Board of Directors. Jeff will lead the way as we build on our first 15 years of success and expand our reach to serve more students, teachers, and schools with innovative online and blended learning programs.

Prior to joining VHS, Jeff was the President and CEO of Advanced Academics, one of the leading providers of online education for public school students in the United States, where he led the company’s pioneering strategy to serve at-risk students and the deployment of its comprehensive online learning model.

“The VHS program is an excellent example of how schools can work together to expand educational opportunities for students everywhere,” said Jeff. “I am looking forward to working with all of our member schools to continue to create learning experiences that prepare students and teachers for success.” Read the press release.

Topics in Online Learning: The Flipped Classroom
A New Trend in Education is Flipping Things AroundEducation is constantly evolving with new technologies that help enhance teaching skills. With these new technologies, the universal standard of the classroom is being re-examined.Most classrooms are managed by a top-down style, where teachers have all the control on how their students learn, and then outside of the classroom, students apply what they learned in class and complete projects and homework. After their work is completed, they bring it back into school to review and discuss. However, the traditional classroom is not the only option these days.

With new technologies, new classroom teaching methods are becoming more prevalent. One of these methods is known as a flipped classroom. Read the full article.

Celebrating 15 Years of Online Learning
Educating Students and Teachers with Quailty Online Instruction

Over the past 15 years, VHS has changed in so many ways, from adding new members, new courses, and new staff to changing our name and becoming The VHS Collaborative. Throughout this period our goal has remained the same: to bring high quality, collaborative online learning to students across the country and around the world.

We began with 28 schools from 10 states, offering 30 courses to about 500 students. Today, we have close to 700 member schools in 33 states and 34 countries. We now offer close to 200 unique courses, from Investing in the Stock Market and Screenwriting Fundamentals to Biotechnology and Psychology of a Crime. Read the full article.

  1. Did anyone happen to notice that the photos from VHS didn’t show any racial/ethnic diversity? That has been an question for online education. It’s interesting to see it so blatantly illustrated.

    • Ray, I’ll be perfectly honest and say that this was not something I had noticed personally. Interesting that you pointed it out, as I wonder how many others simply overlooked the image and the connection is has to the reality of equity – or lack thereof – in K-12 online learning.
