Virtual Schooling SIG And SITE 2012

The annual Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education (SITE) International Conference begins today and I wanted to provide an update about the Virtual Schooling SIG.

During the first call for proposals the SIG received a total of 59 submissions and during the second call we received an additional 20 submissions. After we weeded out the proposals that were no related to K-12 online learning, we were left with the following:

Type of proposals Submitted (first round) Accepted (first round) Submitted (second round) Accepted (second round) Submitted (total) Accepted (total)
Full Papers 7 5 7 5
Brief Papers 2 1 3 3 5 4
Panels 1 1 1 1
Roundtables 1 0 1 0
Posters 2 1 2 1

If you do some math on the table, you’ll see that we actually reviewed 17 proposals (of the 59 that were submitted to the SIG – the others would have been referred to other SIGs). Of the 17 proposals, 11 of them were accepted. Note that this is a decrease from last year, when we received 62 proposals, reviewed 25 and accepted 19 of them.

Taking into account the fact that some folks may have chosen not to come and we may have had some proposals accepted by other SIGs that were later referred to the Virtual Schooling SIG, this is our final program based on the online schedule.

Note that I will be stepping down as chair of the SIG this year, as my three-year term ends. I will be replaced by Leanna Archambault, who has been the SIG’s co-chair for the past three years. We will be looking to fill the co-chair position with someone new at this morning’s business meeting.
