I e-mailed the FLVS web mail form, trying to find an e-mail address for a specific FLVS individual, and in the autoresponder I received the following:

Now I’ve mentioned about virtual schools using various Web 2.0 tools in the past, and here is another example – YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook; along with the live information sessions.
Using Twitter and YouTube to advertise your school is one thing. Using those technologies to teach is another.
I teach for an online high school, and have been using Twitter as a supplement to our more formal discussion boards. Students have “followed” a symbol in Lord of the Flies and tweeted on their observations of its meaning. They’ve also been tweeting on vocabulary they pick up independently.
I would love to see what other teachers are doing with Twitter in the classroom. I know we’re using our PLNs to pick up teaching ideas. How else are people engaging their students with it?

Lisa, I agree that marketing and incorporating into one’s pedagogy are two very different things. The only other program I know doing something like this program-wide is the blogging being done at Clovis Online School (see Virtual School Teachers Blogging). This is not to say that I don’t know of a number of individual teachers who are using Web 2.0 tools in their teaching, just that this is the only one I’ve seen do it in any systematic kind of way like you folks at the Open High School are doing.
I can say that my Web 2.0 tag has less than ten entries right now. Although one of which is Virtual Schooling and Web 2.0, which may be of interest.
Maybe others can share?
