Final CEET Meet of the Year
The Community of Expertise in Educational Technology (CEET) and LearnNowBC are pleased to have offered more than 12 free and open online professional learning workshops (CEET Meets) this 2012/2013 school year. Here are the details on the final CEET Meet for this school year:

  • Using Global Collaborative Projects to Enhance Learning: June 7th-12th
Global Collaborative Projects provide an incomparable opportunity for students and educators at multiple institutions around the world to actively collaborate in shared courses. Students involved in global, collaborative classroom projects not only learn the content standards at higher levels, they also develop critical global competencies and the seven survival skills for the 21st century which Tony Wagner identified in his book, The Global Achievement Gap.
Join this CEET Meet to explore how you can create global learning experiences for your students.

CEET Meets use the LearnNowBC Moodle LMS platform. These “Professional Learning Potlucks” focus on the resources and skills needed to use a variety of technologies in the classroom and online.

PLUS, you can access ANY archived CEET Meet from this year or previous years, even if you didn’t register for it or participate. You just need to have registered for ANY past, present or future CEET Meet and you’ll have access.

Click here to visit the CEET Moodle Meets page and register!

Updated Adult Grad Information Section
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, we’ve revamped the Adult Graduation information section on LearnNowBC.Adults are returning to education in increasing numbers – either to earn their BC Dogwood or to augment their transcript to prepare for post-secondary.

Whatever the reason, the updated information section provides concise information for adults looking to return to school.

LearnNowBC Trade Finder is Live!
Launched last month, the new LearnNowBC Trade Finder puts all the BC high school trades programs in one convenient place.Students can find ACE IT programs three different ways: find the trades offered in any high school in BC, in any school district, or find all the high schools that offer the specific trade they’re interested in.

These ACE IT programs are delivered by certified instructors in a high-school, at a partner post-secondary institution, or at an ITA-certified training facility.

Students can take the first step towards gaining a credential in their chosen trade or vocation and find the training they want, where they want it.

Click here to visit the LearnNowBC Trade Finder.

Promoting Data Literacy Through Coding Events – Hackathons

Another notice for my colleagues in British Columbia…

The countless hours kids spend web surfing, social networking, gaming and programming has helped them to develop sophisticated technology skills and become seriously tech-savvy.

Help kids realize their full potential, raise data literacy and create unique solutions by planning/promoting/hosting a hackathon of full-day challenges and all kinds of DIY and maker workshops with circuits, 3D printing, everything interesting and hands-on, where kids can hack-on with their parents!
A “how-to” document has been compiled to support librarians, school staff, and youth themselves who want to promote data literacy through coding events – hackathons.
