Reminder: Boise State Question And Answer Webinar – Idaho K-12 Online Endorsement

A reminder of this webinar that is happening tomorrow evening.

Idaho K-12 Online Endorsement Update
by Dr. Kerry Rice – Friday, September 2, 2011, 03:10 PM

I wanted to share with you all a link to a program planning site for the K-12 Online Endorsement (https://sites.google.com/a/boi…ement/home). Please be aware that at this time, the information is in preliminary form and subject to change at any time. We are in the initial stages of planning the program requirements.

The endorsement applies only to Idaho certified teachers. We currently do not have a mechanism for adding an endorsement to other state certifications. If your state has a reciprocal relationship with Idaho, it may be possible to earn an Idaho certificate and then earn the endorsement. Contact your state or the Idaho State Department of Education for details regarding reciprocal certificate agreements and requirements.

At this time, I am looking for individuals who are interested in a Fall 2011 completion of the endorsement to be part of a pilot of the endorsement process. In order to be eligible for consideration you must be very close to completion of your coursework in the MET or MS program or have a combination of coursework and significant experience and PD training in K-12 online teaching from your employer or other sources. See the planning site for detailed information about course requirements. You may be required to enroll in a 1 – 3 credit Endorsement Portfolio course for creation of an ePorfolio demonstrating alignment of artifacts and coursework to the Idaho Online Teaching Standards and associated performance indicators. Determination of eligibility for Fall 2011 completion will be made on a case-by-case basis.

If you are interested in completing the endorsement for Fall 2011 (or at any time for that matter), an informational Question and Answer Webinar is scheduled for Thursday, 9/8 at 7 pm (MST) at this address: http://edtech.adobeconnect.com/onlineendorsement/. If you cannot attend a recording of the session will be made available.

K-12 Online Teaching Endorsement

The Idaho State Board of Education voted last week, and we are now an officially approved program for the K-12 Online Teaching Endorsement! There is a prescribed program of study which we will get posted on the website. In the meantime, below is a list of possible courses to meet the requirement. Keep in mind that this endorsement is competency-based which allows for much variation. A matrix of how the evidence for each of the performance indicators is aligned with each course might help K-12 Online Teaching Endorsement. If other courses produce similar artifacts, they could potentially be used as evidence. Dr. Rice will be discussing various options with the Idaho State Department of Ed as EdTech gets this ball rolling. The intent, though, is to begin advising immediately for students interested in the endorsement. Please contact either Jerry Foster or Dixie Conner for more information.

The possible courses to meet the requirements:

  • EDTECH 502**: Internet for Educators (3 credits)
  • EDTECH 504: Theoretical Foundations of Educational
  • Technology (3 credits)
  • EDTECH 512*: Online Course Design (3 credits)
  • EDTECH 521*: Teaching Online in the K-12 Environment (3 credits)
  • EDTECH 523*: Advanced Online Teaching (3 credits)
  • EDTECH 597: Social Network Learning (3 credits)
  • EDTECH 597: Internship (2 credits)

*Indicates required courses for the previously approved nine- credit Online Teaching Certificate offered through the Department of Educational Technology.

**Recommended course for the Online Teaching Certificate for students who are not enrolled in the Master’s of Educational Technology graduate program.
