End-of-Year & Graduation: Let LearnNowBC help!

Spring Break and Easter Tutoring Schedule. The days are getting longer and the end of the school year is just around the corner. Students and teachers are getting ready for the next round of exams and the grade 12 students start thinking about graduation (and beyond).

Use LearnNowBC’s tutoring for exam prep!
Our free (and frankly, rather awesome) LiveTUTOR service is getting rave reviews from students…
But don’t forget about the ChargedUP for Math & Science streaming videos and the Success Checker quiz and study guide tool!

  • Educators can manage student DPA logs and see who’s completed their requirements and who hasn’t.Click here for the Student DPA Tracker

Click here for the Educator DPA Admin

Finally, don’t forget students can access Provincial exam marks online at the Ministry of Education’s “Student Secure Web” site

New: Writing 10-12 LiveTUTOR Sessions!

If you have read above, you would have noticed a new LiveTUTOR offering: Writing 10-12.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6-10pm, students can log in and submit up to 200 words of original prose and our exceptionally talented tutors will assist with grammar, spelling and sentence structure.

This is brand new, and if your students are looking for a little help with their composition, please let them know about this!

New ERAC Video Resources!

One of the BC Digital Classroom video streaming vendors, Access Learning, have just added 50 new titles!

This new content comes from the Disney series, Discovery Canada, Norflicks Canadian history, VEA and more!

So why not take a safety tour with Timon and Pumbaa or enjoy a Safety Smart Science session with Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Educators and students from schools or districts that subscribe to ERAC Video Bundle can log in to LearnNowBC and check them out right here.

Best Practices in Designing Effective Online Learning

Versace isn’t necessary, but good design for effective learning is in an online environment, not to mention reducing the need for Advil. This CEET Meet will focus on the practical experiences of teachers at the Abbotsford Virtual School, and what current research offers by way of student viewing and learning in an online environment, and teacher best practices in setting up courses.Among the topics we will discuss are: current research about how 21st Century students learn; the pedagogy of online learning; best practices in course layout to be visually appealing; different uses of online learning such as asynchronous, blended learning, and the flipped classroom; and the best tools/modules to use. The focus here will be in using MOODLE as the Learning Management System, but content will be applicable to other LMS and Web 2.0 tools. Participants will receive a MOODLE ‘sandbox’ to ‘play’ in.
  • 03-May-2013 to 08-May-2013:
How to Develop Digital Literacy Skills

Literacy today depends on understanding the multiple media that make up our high-tech reality and developing the skills to learn, create, communicate, and publish in a digital environment and society. As 90% of new jobs will require excellent digital skills, improving digital literacy is an essential component of developing future employable graduates.Courses that embed core digital skills, as well as subject specific use of technology, enable students to gain the skills and confidence they need to use digital technology not only to support their learning but also in the workplace.

Text2Reader, April Edition

In the April issue of Text2Reader, we cast our eye globally as we take a critical look at food and food production.

In Farmed Out, students will meet a city girl gone country, while Down to Earth introduces them to young farmers around the world. They’ll contrast small-scale, sustainable farming to its corporate cousin, and will take it a step further in Food Fight, where Devin untangles a devious plot involving a multinational food giant and its desire to control food production worldwide.

Digital Nation looks at food distribution—and takes aim at North America’s voracious appetite for grain to support wasteful animal crops.

Food for thought, indeed.
