Vancouver Island University Graduate Diploma in Online Learning and Teaching (OLTD)

VIU (Vancouver Island University) Introduces Graduate Diploma in Online Learning and Teaching (OLTD)

Distance learning is one of BC’s educational growth areas and teachers with expertise in this rewarding field are in popular demand. The OLTD program was designed in cooperation with professionals and school district distance learning principals to meet the needs of today’s 21st Century online learners.

This innovative, two-year part-time, fully-online, 30 credit program, develops confident educators competent in the use of existing and emergent technologies to optimize online learning and teaching opportunities for diverse learners in equally diverse environments. Through digital immersion in a variety of environments, students will explore theory and its practical applications based on research, as well as current and emergent practices.

The program engages a cohort model of 25 seats and meets industry and school district needs for knowledgeable and skilled distance educators focused on engagement, achievement and student success. Teachers and instructors with a BEd or an undergraduate degree in any discipline with current teaching experience are encouraged to apply.

Teachers currently practicing in BC’s public system will be eligible for increased TQS salary increments (depending on one’s current level.) The diploma program also qualifies graduates to ladder into VIU Masters of Education (Leadership) program with an additional 10 credits of Major Project/Thesis work.

Applications for September 2013 are now being accepted and the selection process begins March 31st annually.
