Upcoming CEET Meets

The Community of Expertise in Educational Technology (CEET) and LearnNowBC are pleased to offer more than 12 free and open online professional learning workshops (CEET Meets) this 2012/2013 school year.

CEET Meets use the LearnNowBC Moodle LMS platform. These “Professional Learning Potlucks” focus on the resources and skills needed to use a variety of technologies in the classroom and online.

PLUS, you can access ANY archived CEET Meet from this year or previous years, even if you didn’t register for it or participate. You just need to have registered for ANY past, present or future CEET Meet and you’ll have access.

Upcoming CEET Meets:

  • Beyond the Bake Sale – Building Community in Schools and Districts: April 12th-18th
This workshop will explore the notion of community, about building trust, relationships, and social capital with parents and community through technology and social media. Be it local, global and blended.
  • Best Practices in Designing Effective Online Learning: April 19th-24th
Versace isn’t necessary, but good design for effective learning is in an online environment, not to mention reducing the need for Advil. This CEET Meet will focus on the practical experiences of teachers at the Abbotsford Virtual School, and what current research offers by way of student viewing and learning in an online environment, and teacher best practices in setting up courses. Among the topics we will discuss are: current research about how 21st Century students learn; the pedagogy of online learning; best practices in course layout to be visually appealing; different uses of online learning such as asynchronous, blended learning, and the flipped classroom; and the best tools/modules to use. The focus here will be in using MOODLE as the Learning Management System, but content will be applicable to other LMS and Web 2.0 tools. Participants will receive a MOODLE ‘sandbox’ to ‘play’ in.

Text2Reader, March Edition

March is Women’s History Month, and Text2Reader has loads of thematically-linked activities and passages to get your students thinking.

Our fiction passage introduces a family of women who work tirelessly to keep the money coming in during the Depression, while our nonfiction passage teaches a new generation about the accomplishments of Gloria Steinem, who was a driving force behind the second wave of feminism.

In our graphic novel selection, Roza, or the Courage to Choose Life, students are reminded that women in other parts of the world struggle daily under the oppressive forces of violence and conflict.

Digital Nation unflinchingly shines a light on the issues women face when working in the technology sector, and introduces students to dynamic and talented tech leaders like Marissa Mayer and Jenni Flinders.

And don’t forget the Readers Theater script that brings our passages — and your young readers — to life!

Bullying is Year-Round

Pink Shirt Day has come and gone for another year, but as we all know bullying happens all year long.

Sites like Erase Bullying and Stop a Bully have great resources and tools to help teachers encourage anti-bullying behaviours.

2013 Digital Learning (DL) Spring Conference

The 2013 DL Conference was a success! …but the learning and sharing doesn’t stop.

Check out archived sessions, presentations and don’t forget to fill out an evaluation form.
