| Pre-conference workshops occur on Wednesday, October 3, 2012. Pre-conference workshops provide opportunities to take one or more Quality Matters face-to-face trainings at a considerable savings compared to standard QM training fees. This year’s pre-conference day also offers a face-to-face version of MERLOT’s GRAPE Camp.
Workshops are taken in conjunction with attendance at the Quality Matters Conference October 3-6, 2012. Participants will receive certificates of completion for all workshops. Learn more and register.

Wednesday Full Day Workshop Descriptions:
- MERLOT Grape Camp – This workshop is a live session of MERLOT GRAPE Camp (Getting Reviewers Accustomed to the Process of Evaluation).The purpose of the workshop is to train Peer Reviewers on the MERLOT Peer Review Process. In the workshop, participants will develop an understanding of MERLOT; Learn how MERLOT evaluates learning materials; conduct a group review; complete an individual review and learn how to use the Workspace tool. After completion of the workshop, participants will be ready to Peer Review in their discipline and will be introduced to the Discipline Editor. $200
- Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR) – The Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR) workshop is QM’s flagship workshop on the QM Rubric and the process of using the QM Rubric to review online courses. It is intended for a broad audience, including but not limited to faculty, instructional designers, administrators, and adjunct instructors who wish to understand more about the QM Rubric and process of course review. The APPQMR is the pre-requisite for the Peer Reviewer Course, which is the required course to become a QM Peer Reviewer.$200
- ATTN: K-12 Colleagues! Applying the QM Rubric for G6-12 -The APPQMR G6-12 workshop is the most comprehensive approach to the G6-12 Rubric offered by QM. This rigorous workshop covers all elements of the Grades 6-12 Rubric and its use in evaluating online courses. This course discusses the underlying rationale for each standard and provides hands on experience.$200
- Build Your Blended Course (BYBC) (Expanded to a full day by popular demand) The “Build Your Blended Course” workshop explores the eight general standards in the QM Rubric and provides a framework to build a blended course. While QM recognizes that each institution will define “blended” in its own way, this framework will work with any combination of face-to-face and online elements. Participants use the QM Rubric to review key blended elements and develop a course development plan. The content is based on the eight general standards of the Quality Matters Rubric.$200
Morning (8AM – noon) workshop options:
- Improving Your Online Course (IYOC) – The “Improve Your Online Course” workshop explores the QM Rubric and provides a framework to improve the quality of online courses. Participants use the QM Rubric to review their online courses and develop a course improvement plan. The content is based on the eight general standards of the Quality Matters Rubric. Participants need an online course for this workshop. (AM Workshop)
- Standards 2 and 3 – Connecting Learning Objectives and Assessments (newly redesigned) The “Connecting Learning Objectives and Assessments” workshop reviews course- and module-level learning objectives while using alignment to ensure that assessments are varied and supportive of the learning objectives. Participants will apply these concepts to developing and/or reviewing their own course objectives and assessments. (AM Workshop)

- Standards 4 and 5 – Linking Instructional Materials and Learner Engagement (newly redesigned)The “Link Instructional Materials and Learner Engagement” workshop briefly reviews effective learning objectives and through the concept of alignment, links instructional materials and learner engagement. Participants will apply these concepts to developing and/or reviewing their own instructional materials as they relate to supporting learner engagement. (PM Workshop)
- Standard 8 – Designing for Accessibility – The “Addressing Accessibility” workshop introduces participants to the challenges faced by persons with disabilities. Practical tips are provided in terms of the “low hanging fruit” – what you can do to make your courses more accessible. (PM Workshop)
