Survey: Windows 8 tablets will win little market share
Analysts, executives and software developers surveyed by Chetan Sharma don’t see the forthcoming Windows 8 tablet computers denting the dominance of the iPad and Android-based tablets. The group predicts that Windows 8 machines will win just 8% of the tablet market in two years (measured in units), compared with 45% for iPad and 44% for Android. The annual survey also identified mobile payments and mobile commerce as hot categories. MediaPost Communications/Online Media Daily (1/3)
Calif. school sees benefits from iPad pilot program
Students at a K-8 school in California are using iPad tablet computers in the classroom as part of a pilot program that began this fall. The school, which has families leasing the devices or providing their own, is seeing many benefits from the program and is planning to expand the use of the devices as part of instruction. “Students will no longer have to lug heavy backpacks filled with books to and from school,” principal Catherine Carvalho said. “We also know that different students learn through different modalities. This technology is good for visual, kinetic and auditory learners.” The Palisadian-Post (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) (1/5)
