[DEOS-L] Arkansas Distance Learning Association Conference Call For Proposals

This showed up in my inbox earlier.  Not sure what kind of K-12 focus there is, but I would encourage my readers in Arkansas to make sure there is a strong K-12 representation there.

ARDLA (Arkansas Distance Learning Association) 2010 Annual Conference

About ARDLA

The Arkansas Distance Learning Association (ARDLA) is a private, non-profit organization, dedicated to providing leadership within the state of Arkansas for the field of distance learning. As part of that mission, we will pursue the following objectives: advocacy, providing a primary source of information, policy, recognition, publicity, publications, partnerships, and consulting. ARDLA is the state chapter of the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA). Both USDLA and ARDLA are dedicated to promoting distance education and providing information and resources that enhance the distance learning experience for students, faculty, administrators, and technicians.

Types of Sessions
******************
HANDS-ON SESSIONS – These sessions are 90 minutes in length. Participants should learn some type of new skill or process in the session that they can apply in their program or institution. Computers and Internet access will be provided. Suggested sessions include course management software tutorials (i.e. WebCT, Blackboard, Moodle), Web page design (i.e. Dreamweaver, Share Point), multimedia (i.e. Camtasia, Impatica), IP communication tools (i.e. Elluminate, Centra), Web 2.0 applications (i.e. Voicethread, Google Docs, Audacity). If it is necessary to download software for the session, there should be a trial version available for download or available licenses. Please indicate availability in the proposal.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS – These sessions are 50 minutes in length. Presentations that are designed to encourage interactivity and professional dialogue will be given preference. Time should be allowed for a 10 – 15 minute question and answer period at the end of a breakout session. Sessions can include presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on labs.

POSTER SESSIONS – features an opportunity to showcase a campus, provider, class or student-based project that has a global focus. This project could include a global connection or development of skills that will help produce citizens prepared for success in the world of the 21st Century. These sessions will not require a presentation to a group but will be booth-oriented.

QUICK-FIRE RESOURCE ROUND – You will have five minutes to talk about your project, tools and techniques used, challenges faced, and results. This round is intended to share information in a fun, entertaining, and meaningful format. Arkansas businesses, content providers, faculty, students, universities, school districts, and other entities utilizing distance learning technology to achieve goals and students are encouraged to take this opportunity to share the fruits of their labor! Each quick-fire topic that is chosen to participate will require a 3-5 slide Power Point Presentation to accompany your five minutes of fame.

APPLICATIONS OF EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES – These sessions explore the newest technologies applied to teaching, learning, communication, creativity, collaboration, and global networking. Vendors are welcome to submit a proposal as long as the lead presenter is an educator/practitioner in the field of distance education.
Targeted Area: Telemedicine, Telejustice, K-12, Higher Education, Business
Other Targeted Audience: Administrators, Teachers, Facilitators, Technology and Distance Learning Coordinators, State Employees

BEST PRACTICES IN ONLINE INSTRUCTION – These sessions describe innovative teaching and design processes for the online environments, teaching and design strategies that can be adapted to a wide variety of disciplines, innovations in course development and instructional design, expansion of learning opportunities, learning styles and strategies, active and collaborative learning, successful course/student management techniques, and engaging and retaining students in the online realm.
Targeted Area: Telemedicine, Telejustice, K-12, Higher Education, Business,
Other Targeted Audience: Administrators, Teachers, Facilitators, State Employees

BEST PRACTICES IN VIDEO CONFERENCING – These sessions describe innovative teaching and design processes for the video-conferencing environments, teaching and design strategies that can be adapted to a wide variety of disciplines, innovations in course development and instructional design, expansion of learning opportunities, learning styles and strategies, active and collaborative learning, successful course/student management techniques, and engaging students in the CIV realm. Session topics also include virtual field trips, collaborative projects, state/national/global projects, students as content developers, CIV presentation tips, and expansion of CIV utilization.

Other Targeted Audience: Administrators, Teachers, Facilitators, State Employees

FACULTY TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – These sessions relate to the use of distance technologies as they relate to faculty, staff, and train-the-trainer instruction and support. Information regarding training programs, training delivery methodology, continuing education and resources for training are encouraged.

Other Targeted Audience: Administrators, Teachers, Facilitators, State Employees

MANAGEMENT, ADMINISTRATION, AND STUDENT SUPPORT – These sessions relate to the managerial and administrative practices that assist with strategic planning, evaluation and assessment, budgeting, marketing, grant opportunities, and policy issues. Vendors are welcome to present as long as the lead presenter is an educator/practitioner in the field of distance education.
Targeted Area: Telemedicine, Telejustice, K-12, Higher Education, Business
Other Targeted Audience: Administrators, Teachers, Facilitators, State Employees

RESEARCH – These sessions deal with theoretical, methodological, empirical, or application-oriented research in regards to distance education and the use of technology to enhance learning. Topics for research could address the overall effectiveness of distance learning, online retention, success of interactivity methods, student outcomes, blended learning environments.

Other Targeted Audience: Administrators, Teachers, Facilitators, State Employees
